Today's post is a little unique and shall I say a little on the awkward side.......but as the New Year approaches I am starting to really think about the future of this blog. I guess what I am really trying to say is I am feeling a disconnection with my readers lately. PHEW....there I said it. Views and visitor numbers are still the same but because blog comments have seem to taken a nose dive I'm having a really difficult time reading my audience here. Is there an audience? Does anyone even read this blog anymore (you don't count mom!)? Hello? Hello!? Is commenting on blogs even still cool?
I have noticed a few other bloggy "colleagues" mention the same thing lately about the lack of comments. The fact of the matter is that we have become a "one-click" society which is why platforms such as Pinterest and Instagram are SO popular right now.
But between Facebook's new feed algorithm in which they show diddly squat to your followers now and comments being low I'm starting to feel like the Unabomber-alone in my cabin, collecting glue guns and glitter bombs and spewing things over the internet that no body cares about.

I know there has been a massive shift in how people interact with blogs. Remember the days when a "tweet" just described the sound a bird made and Facebook biz pages were just a twinkle in Mark Zuckerberg's eyes? Those were the days that the only way to communicate with a blogger was to leave a comment. Trust me I don't blog just for comments but it's nice a way for me to interact with my readers and to get feedback on what I'm sharing. Do my tutorials make sense? Do my readers prefer quick and easy crafts vs. big furniture makeovers? Do they enjoy my clueless rants on motherhood? So I guess I'm just saying don't be afraid to drop by and say "hi" every once in awhile! Your comments do make my day and inspire me!
PS. I know life is busy and sometimes interacting through other options is much easier so on that note I am finding myself really enjoying Instagram-so if you're not following me already I suggest you drop on by! I'm @delightnoted I share pics of the baby I baked, sneak peeks, and other daily ramblings.
PPS. Okay, I'm really going to hit that "publish" now.
PPS. No really....here I go. 3-2-1......
Sincerely,
Alone in My Cabin

it's kind of turned into an i only comment to get comments sort of game, which is weird to me. i read the blogs i read, and try to comment, but can't get to it as much as i'd like. but i agree, it's a lot easier for people to double click a heart! i am still reading, though, even if i can't always comment!
ReplyDeleteDon't feel alone with your glitter bombs! I adore you blog and love what you are putting out there! You rock it lady!
ReplyDeleteI love all your stuff! You're very good at mixing it up; between hilarious mommy moments to HUGE make-over projects like your nursery. I'm just lazy and / or always in too big of a hurry to comment! or just lazy ;)
ReplyDeleteI love your blog! I've also been reading for a while and never commented so... what kind of reader/fellow blogger does that make me?! On that note, I use bloglovin as my reader, and a lot of times I'm on my phone just killing time, and their format doesn't allow for comments. So there is my excuse lol. But keep keeping on. If blogging makes you happy, then keep at it! We will all be here lurking and waiting for new content and sweet baby photos. Much love!
ReplyDeleteI just want you to know that I have followed your blog and enjoy it very much. Just want you to know that you and your blog are appreciated.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Marsha
I read your blogs....but usually in my email. It is hard to get to all of the different blogs I follow and FB pages and Twitter not to mention my own FB biz pages(I have 3). So it's not you, it's just that there aren't enough hours in the day. Keep on blogging!
ReplyDeleteGUILTY!!!! Even though I don't always comment I really enjoy your blog and it really is a pleasure to read and see all your projects. You're the bestest!
ReplyDeleteGreatly appreciated,
Gar
I DO enjoy your clueless rants on motherhood as I navigate my own cluelessness regarding motherhood. (I'm now employed by a dairy farm. You weren't kidding about those demanding baby bosses.) You also have some of the cutest, most original craftiness that I see as I peruse blogland--so keep it up! :)
ReplyDeleteAnd I'm with you 100%--I don't blog for comments, but if I didn't want interaction with other human beings, I could just talk to the wall. :P
First time reader but thought that I'd let you know that I can't comment on many of my favorite blogs because they won't accept anonymous comments. I don't have a blog and I don't want some other account just so I can leave the occasional comment.
ReplyDeleteI realize this doesn't apply here, but just wanted to let you know the reason my participation via the comments section is down.
